How to create a service without a product

If your service does not need to be linked to a specific product such as consultations, virtual appointments, or classes, you can create a standalone service in BookX.

This option lets you set up a booking flow without linking it to a product. You can then display the booking widget on any page of your store using the Shopify Theme Editor.


Create new service

1. Go to the Services page of the BookX app.

2. Click “Create new service”.

1. Go to “Services” and click “Create New Service”.

2. Set the name for your service.

3. Select “Create service without product”.

4. Enter your email address to receive booking notifications.

5. Click “Next” to continue to Slot configuration.

Choose how customers will book your service.

1. Select your service type:

  • Regular: Book time-based slots (e.g., 30 mins, 45 mins, 1 hour)

2. Set block out date & time to prevent booking on specific dates or times.

3. Click “Next” to move to Location & team member.

You can optionally assign locations and team members to your service.

  1. Click “Add location”, select the location(s) and click “Add”.
  1. Click “Add team member”, select the team member(s) and click “Add”.
  1. After adding locations and team members, click “Next” to continue to Availability settings.

This section controls how and when customers can book your service.

1. Advance booking time (Optional): Set a minimum lead time to prevent last-minute bookings and give you time to prepare.

2. Booking Window (Optional): Define how far in advance customers can book.

3. Capacity (Optional) & Slot visibility rules (Optional) : Set capacity limits to control the number of bookings per slot and manage slot visibility rules.

4. Reschedule & cancel booking (Optional): Allow customers to cancel or reschedule their bookings.

5. Optional reservation (Optional): Allow customers to reserve the booking or skip the booking and order directly.

6. Customer information: Add custom fields to collect additional customer details such as preferences or special requirements.

ℹ️

Note: Customer information is mandatory for services without a product.

Once you set your availability settings, click “Next” to move to Setup instruction.


Step 5: Setup instruction

1. On the Setup Instruction page, scroll down to the Service ID key section

2. Click “Copy” to copy the Service ID and click “Configure App Block”.

3. On the Theme Editor, navigate to the preferred page.

4. Hover over the section where you want to place the button.

5. Click “Add section”, click on “Apps”, and select “BookX”.

6. Paste the Service ID under Appointment ID field and enter a title, sub title, and description.

7. Add an image, adjust the layout alignment if needed.

8. Click “Save” and switch back to Shopify Admin and click “Next” on the popup.

9. Ensure that the booking widget works on your store.
